How to follow a professional drying plan.
Understand the starting findings, equipment plan, progress checks and completion record so you know what to ask at each stage.

Request the starting assessment.
Ask which rooms and materials were checked and how the provider identified the affected area. Keep the written findings and photographs. Hidden moisture should be evaluated based on the property’s conditions rather than guessed from surface appearance.
Understand equipment placement and use.
Ask where equipment will go, which areas must remain accessible and how daily life in the home will be affected. Follow the provider’s safety and operating instructions. Discuss noise, pets or access issues so the plan accounts for them.
Ask what the measurements show.
At progress checks, ask whether the affected materials are moving toward the provider’s drying goals and what would trigger a change. Request an explanation and written authorization before additional removal or charges are added.
Keep the final record before repairs.
The handoff should explain which materials were dried, removed or still require work. Ask how readiness for reconstruction was established. Save the final record with your scope and receipts for future reference.
Use prevention guidance appropriately.
EPA advises drying water-damaged areas and items within 24–48 hours to help prevent mold growth. This prevention guidance is not a promise that every restoration job will finish within that period.
